Stop Poisoning Your Cat

Cats are pure carnivores. They evolved over millions of years to eat nothing but meat. Meat is good for cats. Liver, skin, fat, heart, muscle, brains. All of it is good for your cat. Meat is what your cat is meant to eat. Look at his relatives, the lion, tiger, lynx and wildcat. They all eat nothing but meat and thrive on it. So does your cat. Your cat loves meat.

Now take a look at that tin of cat food. Read those ingredients

  • Corn Gluten Meal
  • Poultry By-Product Meal
  • Wheat Flour
  • Whole Grain Corn
  • Fish Meal
  • Beet pulp
  • Soyabean meal
  • peanut shells

Well none of that looks like meat to me.

Now I know that cats need a nutritionally balanced diet. Apparently cats require a minimum of 41 nutrients and not all of these are supplied by meat, so a 100% meat diet isn't the answer. However, these nutrients do not come from rice, corn, wheat, soya or peanuts so why are these ingredients in my cat's dinner?

The answer is finance. The big pet food producers are all part of the human food industry and the pet food tins provide a handy way of getting rid of food unfit for human consumption by feeding it to our pets.

There is lots of evidence and data surrounding what to feed your pets. I think it is best to talk to a vet before radically changing your cats diet. Cats have survived for quite a few generations on tinned and dried cat food so maybe they are more resilient than we think.
