People tend to own cats because of the general loving nature of the animal and because, of course, they are cute little critters. There are some things you have to think about before you start training your cat though. Firstly, you must try not to get too frustrated if you feel like your cat isn't learning quickly enough. Training can take anything from a few weeks to a few months so be as patient as you possibly can. Cats are very stubborn, as we all know too well, so they will learn at their own pace. Secondly, make sure your cat is at least six months old because any younger and they will probably lack the ability to balance properly on the toilet seat and you do not want the cat to falling into the toilet bowl! Another thing that could be handy is the fact that a lot of houses nowadays have two toilets, so why not try to 'reserve' one just for the cat just while it trains. And don't forget to leave the toilet lid up and the seat down!
Before the training commences, you have to be sure that the cat is using its litter box each time it needs to do a toilet. If it doesn't use a litter box for whatever reason then it will make it very difficult to train it to use the toilet, so do make sure it is properly litter box trained before you begin.
Instinctively, a cat buries its business wherever it can, for example in sand, mud or the litter box so you are going to have to try and slowly change its behavioural instincts and habits over the course of a few weeks so that it can get used to the idea of doing a toilet without feeling the urge to bury or cover it over.
