No matter why you want to photograph your cat, it's good to remember that cats can create their own challenges. They don't, of course, sit still and this can be particularly true of Siamese.
It's important to get photos that show the personality of your Siamese. Some cats are active and it's best to get pictures of them playing. Others like to lie around. Take photos of them in quieter positions. Sometimes dangling a toy as you try and take the photo works for a good action shot. A Siamese who doesn't mind being held and posed, can be held and posed. There are people online who have cats in photos that obviously required some cooperation from the cat. Other cats won't put up with this.
People like shots from the level of the cat. Try and take your photos of your Siamese at their level. This can require lying on the floor with the camera. It can require having the cat on a piece of furniture at your level. It may require someone holding them. These photos are nicer and show off your Siamese better than shots from above, which typically only show the cat's back.
Have patience. Siamese can be especially trying. They love to do what they want when they want and it often isn't the same thing that you want! Take lots of photos. Digital cameras are a god send with cats! Snap and click and delete the shots that are out of focus.
Invest in a good entry level (or higher) digital SLR. This gives you more control with lighting. It's better to shoot your Siamese without a flash. The Siamese blue eyes show up very red and can do so even without the flash. Setting the lighting on your SLR can help prevent this. Some SLRs have an anti shake feature which keeps the camera more steady and can give clearer photos if you are trying to hold the camera in one hand and dangle a toy with the other.
Learn to use a good photo-editing program. Face it. Just when you have the perfect shot of your Siamese, something else is probably preventing that from being perfect. Photo editing is wonderful. If you want to show off your can in those cute clothing items that many cats wear, but your Siamese won't, well then photo edit. If you're good, the world may never know!
